Tall Fescue

Developed in the Pacific Northwest, Lindberg is an improved turf-type tall fescue with medium-fine texture and dark color. In private turf evaluation trials conducted at Aurora, Oregon, Lindberg performed at or near the top of all varieties tested. It displayed strong resistance to winter leaf spot, good winter color and excellent spring green up. Lindberg also has displayed excellent turf density, strong drought tolerance and lower fertility requirements due to inherent dark color.

Lindberg performs best when fertilized with two to four lbs of nitrogen per 1000 square feet for the year and when mowed at one and a half inches in height. Lindberg is well suited for a wide range of climates and uses such as parks, roadsides, athletic fields and home lawns where turf-type tall fescue is desired. With high drought tolerance and shortened growth during the winter months, Lindberg requires less maintenance than other cool season grass species to maintain color and sward density.

Lindberg can be seeded as a straight variety or blended with other turf-type tall fescue varieties of similar color and leaf characteristics. Lindberg should be seeded at normal turf-type tall fescue seeding rates of 6-10 lbs per 1000 sq. ft. when broadcast. The seed should be worked into the top ¼ inch of soil and kept moist throughout germination and establishment.

Lindberg performs best when fertilized with a heavy split fall application of nitrogen and a lighter application in the spring. Avoid seeding during the hot summer months as this can promote disease pressure. Early mowing should be no lower than 1.5 inches and can be adjusted to the user’s preference after establishment.
